Right tool. Wrong job.
I’ve used many things as a hammer. Rocks. A screwdriver. A wrench. Elbows (never my own). They can get the job done most of the time. Sometimes they break the object being hammered, sometimes they just break. They never work quite as well as the hammer.
That’s how we feel about software development tools. We have our favorites, but in the end the tools are a means to an end. The best choice is the one that does the job most efficiently and effectively. I think of WordPress as the Leatherman I carry on my belt – a good tool for many different purposes, but great at only 1 or 2. We use it for some applications and go with better options for others. Such is life.
We don’t let ourselves get caught up in the tools. Our focus is on the end result, and the customer.
